SIX SIGMA: A great tool to improvise on your business

SIX SIGMA: - in a nutshell.
Globalization and instant access to information, products and services have changed the way our customers conduct business – old business models no longer work.  The competitive environment today leaves no room for error. We must continuously look for new ways and means to go above and beyond our client/customer expectations.  This is why six sigma has become a vital part of our culture.
What is Six Sigma?
‘Sigma’ is a Greek (symbol)alphabet, a symbol used in statistical notation to represent the ‘standard deviation’ of a group/population.  ‘Standard Deviation’, in statistics, indicates the amount of ‘variation’ or inconsistency (defining) measuring how far a given process deviates from perfection.
The idea behind Six Sigma is that if you can measure the number of defects in a process, you can systematically work towards elimination and get as close to ‘Zero defects’ as possible.
KEY ELEMENTS OF QUALITY (SIX SIGMA):
1.        CLIENT / CUSTOMER
(Just being good is not good enough anymore.)  They are the core of any service organization.  They define the quality, expecting performance, reliability, on-time delivery competitive price, clear and correct transaction processing and more.
2.       THE PROCESS
Quality requires the team to look at their on-service from the clients’ perspective.  In other words they must look at the processes from outside in with this knowledge they can identify areas to add significant value or improvement from their perspective.
3.        EMPLOYEES / STAFF
People create results.  Involving all employers / staff is essential to an organization’ quality initiative / approach.  Quality becomes the responsibility of every member of the staff, as in seminars, workshops training programs a part of these processes.  Everyone must be involved, motivated and knowledgeable if the group must succeed.
KEY CONCEPTS;
Critical to Quality – Attributes most important to customer.
Defect  -  failing to deliver the customer wants.
Process capability  -   What the process can deliver.
Variation  -  What the customer sees and feels.
Stable operation -  Consistent and predictable processes  to improve what customer sees and feels.
Design for Six Sigma  -  Designing to meet customer needs and process capability.
Six Sigma aims at elimination of unpleasant surprises and broken promises.  It has two primary applications.
1.        a)To remove the ‘variation’ in routine and relatively simple tasks.   Ex- the phone rings, Six Sigma application can ensure the call is attended in 3-4 rings. Statistically speaking, 3-4 defects for every million activities / opportunities.  An /Opportunity’ may be defined as a chance of non conformance, or not meeting required specifications.  This means near flawless execution of my processes. Another way to define Six Sigma is a sweeping ‘culture change’ in an effort to position an organization towards greater client/customer satisfaction.  Finally Six Sigma is a comprehensive and flexible system of achieving, sustaining and maximizing business/service success.
2.         bProject application:  may improve more complex and multipart endeavors.   Our inconsistencies late in the project and Six Sigma is incredibly effective in discovering these on the drawing board computer screens.
Sis Sigma strategies focus on process design/redesign, process management process improvement.
Process design/redesign and improvement are complementary for sustained success.  Process management is evolutionary, that is, the organization learns from experience and develops slowly.
Benefits of Six Sigma:
1     Generates sustained success.  Sigma creates skills and culture for constant revival.
2.       Sets performance goal for everyone.  Gets everyone working in the same direction focused on a common goal which enhances individual performance.
3.       Enhances value to customer/client .  Sis Sigma considers customers recognition as most important.
4.       Accelerates rate of improvement.  The core of six sigma is to improve on improvement.
5.       Promotes learning  and ‘Cross polination’. Learning Organization are a popular concept today.   Six Sigma is an approach that increase and accelerate the development and sharing of new ideas across an organization.
6.      Executes strategy changes – Introducing and launching new services / ventures, and entering new areas which are frequent in quality institutions.

Did you know that one of the key elements that was used to produce this Ad here is Six Sigma?
DID YOU KNOW? The U.S. Social Security Board reports that 85 out of 100 Americans reaching age 65 don't possess as much as $250. And only 2% are self-sustaining (the rest dependent on family, church, or the government)! Want to know what the "2-percenters" know that you don't? www.sfi4.com/12392488/FREE
