Frank loved the graveyard shifts as a security guard in the up-market Ambassador Hotel. It gave him the opportunity to attend to all the chores at home as a single parent with two young children. Its not uncommon for Frank to catch ‘forty winks’, but, in his characteristic style. Slumped in his arm-chair at the gate, cap pulled low over his eyes, almost covering his face, right hand in his pocket and left across his chest.

On one of his shifts, at around 2am the GM was on his rounds (usually unaccompanied) happened to notice Frank asleep in his chair at the gate. Annoyed he walked up to Frank and tapped him lightly on the shoulder. Frank took his time, slowly pushed his cap back, stood to his feet.

GM: “Sleeping Frank”?

“No Sir”, says Frank, “Praying”, pulling out his rosary from his pocket!.

'Pressing' Problem's? Learn to 'Iron' them out!!

Looking at the world today I cannot but see problems. People problems, Personal Problems, financial problems,Emotional,Medical,Educational..Problems everywhere in everything! Yet for some reason I dont feel threatened, there is a calmness, a quietude. I dont' feel bogged down. I was thinking about this seriously this morning and wondered if I was somehow 'different'. Here's what I 'saw' and 'understood'

Over the past few years, I stopped calling problems a problem, I renamed a problem as a 'situation'. I considered 'circumstance' but that did'nt suit my way of thinking, I reasoned that 'circumstance' would mean 'circumference' in which I 'stand'. Situation was just right.

Now the logical mind, which normally lives and reasons in labels, does'nt avoid 'looking' into the 'situation'. I had observed as soon as I used the word 'problem' my mind registered it as something negative and did'nt want to look at it. But when I addressed the situation my whole attitude changed. The fear, anxiety and worry that are attached to the word problem, were no longer there and so the brain did'nt enter into a deadlock!.

Simple things, a leaky fawcet, light bulb fused,geyser not working, an unironed dress all of these day-to-day incidents can be stressful when looked at as problems. Now can life stop being a 'hurdles' race, YES it can, if only we could rename a problem as a situation or better still a challenging situation. This activates that unconcious part of the brain which we normally dont' use. Unless we are pushed to the wall, or encounter difficulties. We do not tap into our inherent resources, and the brain gets trapped into thinking on the same old lines and it would appear to be incapable of breaking free.

What we need is a 'pause' button on the 'logical' mind and to allow the deeper unconcious mind to come up with answers. It is very exciting to deliberately engage this creative energy in the problem-solving process. Maybe the situation may not change, but your attitude towards it will change. and the changed attitude will open up to a newer look into  the situation.   

Here's what a great thinker has to say:"Look at the question deeply, and if the look is clear and total, the question disappears. No question is ever answered, it simply disappears without a trace. All that you have to do is to put the analytical mind away. When the unconcious finds a solution there is a leap of understanding which seems to come out-of-the-blue."

The mystery of life is such that the answer lies within the question.

When life is like a whirlpool and your dumped in, the more you fight the current the more you drown. But when you let go,with the swirl and spin, the current itself will throw you to the surface.

Curiously the word 'problem' does'nt seem to find mention in the Bible. In my search I found the phrase "Do not be afraid" to appear (not surprisingly) 365 times, once for each day of the year!!

Give yourself bigger and better goals. Whatever happens keep a positive attitude. Make sure your self-talk is nuturing and positive.

Encourage yourself, keep doing a little bit everyday towards realizing your dream/s.

Build your network. Lend a helping hand to those who need it. There is no better time than 'bad times' to bring families, friend, teams etc., together.

Rcognize, encourage and be supportive of others efforts. Let no discouraging or negative remark escape your lips.

Tough times motivate us to think out-of-the box or just get rid of the box!

Create an atmosphere that is replete with the positive emotions of love, joy, peace, laughter, courage, compassion. This will nuture creativity and innovation.

A Toronto based blogger; Zach Bussey, is trying to live for a year solely off social media handouts from companies, news reports revealed. They give him products and in tuern he reviews them on his blog. On thursday he managed to snag a 5-day stay at a swanky condominium. 

For the past eight months Mr. Bussey has been surviving on social media alone, and the 27 year old is in the middle of an experiment in which he feeds, clothes and amuses himself solely through all the promotions and sponsorships he can find on the internet. He aims to live for one year off freebies alone- from food to shirts to toaster ovens- companies send him in exchange for mentions in his blog or social media accounts. 

The perks have'nt been quite as plentiful as the commercial free-loader had hoped; "There are many things missing" says Bussey, "The project has made me a minimalist".

Bussy said he put away $12,000 to cover his rent, but he stopped collecting ad money from his blog, adamant about subsisting only on 'pure products' and 'pure experience'. So far the experience has been taxing as sponsorship/s can take weeks to come.  (DC: Wed Aug. 28th)

As many as there are down to earth, honest to God advertisers, so much and more are the 'misleading' promotions I (we) see everyday.

In my 40 year adult-life (there are many others like me who would vouch for the same) I have known that whatever is ours will come to us, thats the universal principle of life, and unless we 'give' it away it cannot be taken from us. And no one can stop it from coming, unless we conciously move aside or refuse. (Even if we do these 'blessings' have an uncanny way of following us.)

One day while musing on the 'root of all evil, and the root of money' I was interrupted by a 'harsh voice' that said "Who told you that you were naked" Gen3:11 (Marketing and sales is about creating a need and fulfilling it, that doesnt mean that we are 'naked')

I have also come to know that "Far more than we could, ask or think or even imagine is what God prepared for those who love Him" (even if you dont love Him, He loves you)and there is 'nothing in heaven or on the earth or under the earth that can seperate us from the love of God which is ours in Christ Jesus"
