A Psalm of Life

A Psalm of Life
By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

What the Heart of the Young Man Said to the Psalmist

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
  “Life is but an empty dream!”
For the soul  is dead that slumbers,
  And things are not what they seem.

Life is real!  Life is earnest!
  And the grave is not its goal;
“Dust thou art, to dust returnest,”
  Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
  Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each tomorrow
  Finds us farther than today.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
  And sour hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
  Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world’s broad field of battle,
  In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
  Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!
  Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,-- act in the living Present!
  Heart within,  and God o’erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
  We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
  Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
  Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
  Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing
  Learn to labor and to wait.

This is an ode to all those who ‘wait patiently for the Lord to act’
Yesterday I received another one of ‘life’s bumps’. My first sale! Wow, that mail from Click Bank, I read over and over again, just to make sure I was seeing right. And it was.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you, the extended members of my family here in IBO. To all my wonderfl friends who, by their sharing, had helped me, knowingly or unknowingly,to persist without counting the costs. Just as the farmer scatters seed, and does’nt know how they sprout and grow, I did all that I could. Sometimes dejected, not able to do more, sometimes anxious that is was so painfully slow.

I am aware that there are quite a few of you out there waiting for your ‘big break’. If you are a newbie like me, with two left hands for the keyboard, and a mouse that would sometimes have a will of its own, not to ‘click’ left or the right or to scroll ‘in the middle’. I want to encourage you, ‘never give up’, 'He who called you is faithful, because He cannot be unfaithful to Himself’. And you will see, ‘the Lords goodness in this present day,’ and ‘with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation’. Amen and amen.
Have a blessed day
